The Zache Group develops theory and algorithms that turn controlled quantum systems into instruments for high-energy and many-body physics.
The central research topic of our group is quantum simulation — the use of controlled quantum systems to study complex quantum phenomena beyond the reach of traditional methods.
We first identify target models, often quantum field theories motivated by high-energy or condensed matter physics. These models are subsequently adapted and reformulated in a way amenable to the capabilities of analog quantum simulators or digital quantum computers, and in this context we develop quantum algorithms that aim to solve fundamental physics questions. Throughout our work we employ a variety of analytical and numerical tools from quantum information theory, notably tensor network methods, while staying in close contact with experimental colleagues who build the devices that can implement our theoretical proposals.
A prime target of our research are gauge theories, which form the foundation of the standard model of particle physics and provide effective descriptions of certain strongly correlated phases of quantum matter.
We are especially interested in (de)confinement of non-abelian lattice gauge theories, as well as their real-time dynamics out of equilibrium.
We welcome applications for Bachelor or Master projects, as well as open PhD or Postdoc positions (availability may vary). We are also open to hosting postdocs through an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship, the FWF ESPRIT program or similar opportunities!
